Olympic Fever

What is it about the Olympics that instantly makes me a huge sports fan. i have never watched beach volleyball in my life and yet i was entranced on the elliptical at the gym the other day. i’m starting to plan my evenings around what sport is on! sorry, can’t go out tonite, gymnastics is on… also clearly a huge fan of swimming, in part i think because you don’t need to know any rules.  just watch to see who hits first.  also it’s a great sport for tv because they show cool angles and can highlight the lanes easily each lap. plus, you know, the hot guys:

Lochted and loaded- Ryan Lochte is totally my new Olympic boyfriend. i don’t normally dig tattoos but i guess i’ll let the olympic rings slide…. i mean wicked swimmer, ripped body, dimples, and the ability to make phelps look like a schmuck? sign me up.

Random stuff

did you know babies are hot new accessories? apparently i look fabulous holding one. not the first time i’ve been told this.  clearly i need to find a rent-a-baby program for those days when i need to look extra good.

did you also know that responsibility is the new sexy? one of my gym friends told me my responsibility and ability to get shit done was super sexy.  i mean i should probs marry this guy cause pretty sure those are two of my most underappreciated qualities….

Movie Reviews:
Dark Knight Rises

awesome. didn’t see the twist coming, and loved the ending.  it was indeed a little dark, but i was ok with that.  3 things that annoyed me:

1. they kept referring to batman as “The Batman”. i mean come on.

2. batmans voice and Bane’s voice.  both super hard to understand and fairly unnecessary.

3. the middle was a little draggy.

also the lights randomly came on in the theater in the middle of the movie.  preeetty freaky after colorado. also this movie did nothing to make me less terrified of Tom Hardy.
Step Up 4

the plot was terrible.  the acting was pretty bad. the dancing was AWESOME.  much like watching the olympics where i want to be an olympian so bad, i want to be a dancer after seeing these movies.  every time! super fun though. would def watch again.

3rd Annual Transcareyautic, Part 1

i did 3 fun things last week (well actually i did way more than 3 fun things, but i’ll tell you about 3…) and 2 goals accomplished!

1. The 3rd Annual Transcareyautic (Goal #1)

last years pic, but you get the general idea

Part 1 because of the holiday falling on a weds.  the past two years massive portions of my extended family has been in and participated.  this year, half came in before the holiday and half came after the holiday.  it really messed up our swim.  but we forged ahead, and did a small group on sunday.  (Part 2 will be over labor day!) 3 of us swam one way and 3 of us swam both ways and we had 1 safety kayak and 1 paddleboat.  and no pictures because we also decided to do it during chapel so we had no audience.  it was very poorly planned. i blame me.  BUT i finished another goal and swam over and back. and it was exhausting. i was beat by a cousin who is 15 years older and a cousin who is 15 years younger. i am clearly both too old and too young to be fast. 31 is a tough age.  but i came in 3rd overall for the over-and-back!! out of 3 people… then took a celebratory paddleboat ride.  happy 4th of july!

2. Pole Dancing Fitness Class (Goal #2)

yeah, you don’t get a picture of this.  i am way too afraid to look up images on my work computer.  suffice to say we were fully clothed at all times 🙂 also, my goal wasn’t a pole dancing fitness class specifically, but a new fitness class.  this class was pretty amazing in several ways.  first: it’s a great workout. i did it 4 days ago and still have sore muscles. some of which may also be due to #1 above.  second: it makes you feel strong! it takes a LOT of muscle to spin around a pole.  this worked much like obstacle races to make me feel competent. altho at times i was holding on too tight and not so much gracefully spinning around and down the pole, as deathgripping and just spinning around a few feet off the ground.  third: it makes you feel accomplished.  granted i am not looking to make this a job (for a multitude of reasons) but i still felt really good when i figured out how to spin forward, backward and even do a fan kick into a backward spin (yeah, the beginners got fancy!) however, i will not tell you which move i almost threw my back out on…it’s ok, it was just a spasm.  it’s an interesting approach to fitness, much more technical and bruising than sexy (at least for a beginner).  i will probs stay at the beginner level, intermediate levels were practicing a backwards yoga headstand then grip the pole with your legs and pull your upper body straight up using your abs.  my friend thought we could do this- i replied that i can’t even do a headstand…. and then asked if the intermediates were doing this, what were the advanced doing? she replied: “routines”. do they have a recital at the end? come watch mommy do her “routine”!  do they dress up? do they strip? is it still a “fitness class” at that point? lots of questions on that one.

3. Oil of Olay ProX cleansing brush

not so much a fun thing i did as a fun thing i use.  it is awesome.  it’s a face washing brush mostly identical to the Clarisonic brand but waaaay cheaper.  it’s basically to your face what an electric toothbrush is to your teeth. a deep clean. i found mine at Sams. go buy one! however do not tell your cousin “it is so amazing, i haven’t broken out at all since i started using it!” because then karma will bite you in the butt and you will break out a bunch.  or so i’ve heard…

1st Annual Great Sister Trip

Destination: PHILLY

Did you know Tom and Katie are getting divorced?!?!. That was how our trip started, a torrent of drama and speculation. Luckily we calmed down after that 🙂 (btw- i totally think they had a contract.  they may have been in crazy, couch-jumping love, but they totes had an itemized contract.)

Anywho, back to the trip.  6 girls: two sets of sisters, one cousin, and three friends that are like sisters. which make the actual sisters like little sisters too. and the cousins like sisters. it’s all very sisterly. 2 nights at the Philly Marriott (thanks Larry!), multiple meals, one ice cream festival, 47 braids, and Magic Mike.  Don’tcha wish your sisters were cool like mine? Don’tcha.

Friday: Upon arrival to the beautiful, balmy, 97* Philly, we immediatley settled into the hotel with drinking card games (with wine, because we are sophisticated/old) and waited for everyone else to arrive.  Once we were all together, and dressed for dinner, we headed out to 13th street to fill our bellies.  We went to Barbuzzo, and could be seated immediately if we sat outside, so of course we did.  Delicious sangria and spanish tapas.  and we MELTED. sitting outside in Philly is not like sitting outside a normal restaurant.  that damn city holds so much heat and combined with the passing cars (we were basically sitting in thee street) we were sweating so bad.  like hang out in the bathroom for an overly long time cause it’s the only place with AC bad.  so we decided to go back to the hotel and drink wine.  and warm up our Channing Tatum love by watching GI Joe.  these self proclaimed CT lovers had never seen it! (but i’ve never seen The Vow so who am i to talk?) so thats what we did. and drank wine. of course.

Saturday dawned bright and early (but not as early as i feared being with 4 moms…) We got ready, had a quick braiding tutorial, and set off into the Philly sunshine in search of brunch.

seriously. our hair looked so awesome all weekend.  and sara does this to her little girl every day!! i really want to pop into her house in the AM and just sit next to her daughter and get my hair done too. i tried a few braids when i got back and they looked like crap and my arms were so tired they were falling off. clearly fancy braiding my own hair is not in my skill set.  so brunch. Green Eggs Cafe. OMG. i don’t use OMG very often, but this warrants it.  breakfast burrito the size of my head, red velvet pancakes, carmel maple creme stuffed french toast. and mimosas obviously… it was crazy good. and fairly cheap. go there.

after that we did some touristy stuff: independence hall (very appropos this time of year) liberty bell, and penns landing. and at penns landing we hit up an all you can eat ice cream festival!

apparently all you can eat ice cream without your children is a pretty big deal. and of course my sister was the only one to break the single rule: don’t throw away your spoon.  luckily she got another one, otherwise we would have had to sick amy’s big innocent eyes on them. then we had to bail on the outdoor activities, we literally had sweat dripping off our legs. i mean, you have to be damn sweaty to have it drip off your legs. *photo below is misleading, we were indeed sweaty messes.

it wouldn’t be a girls weekend without shopping so that was next. then dinner at The Continental- delish. make sure you order the shoestring fries for an appy, they come out like a haystack! cheesesteak eggroll with siracha ketchup is also amazing.  one more wardrobe change (due to the aforementioned sweat) and it was onto the main show:

at the smallest, crappiest theater i have ever been in! seriously. The Roxy? sounds fancy, has NO cupholders, no leg room, and holes in the wall and ceiling that made us fear rats. we may have overcome that with wine. did you know they make mini boxes of decent wine? like 3 glasses worth. with an easy pour top. hypothetically perfecto for the movies. but i digress. the movie? perfect for girls weekend. or maybe even a date night, or with your best-y, or your sister, or you know, tonite. or tomorrow. maybe thursday.

and The Great Sister trip came to a close. we couldn’t top mostly naked Channing tatum so we retired to our hotel to drink wine and watch male gymnasts.  who are ridic! our favorite was the guy with the faux hawk.  Then had crepes at Terminal Market in the AM and headed home. Girls weekends are easy if you stick to a few simple rules: wine, food, shopping, keep track of your buddy, and a movie with that years hottie.  if you can manage all-you-can-eat ice cream, even better. here’s a bonus for ya:

The 2nd Annual Great Sister Trip? New Orleans!

*sara i hope the improper spelling, grammer, and capitalization don’t make your eye twitch.
